Do you have advice for teens like Caleb and Maggie? Options

Caleb and Maggie both feel like outsiders at their high school. (Caleb has just gotten out of jail and Maggie now has a permanent limp.) What suggestions would you give to Maggie or Caleb to help them if you were their Fairy Godmother?

Okay, first of all, I'm a homeschooler, and some people at my church aren't to welcoming to homeschoolers (There are only two in our church). What I've tried to do, is develop close friendships with only a few people who you know are good people. I've done that, and I'm know mostly accepted by my youth group and I have a lot more friends! Just, try to stay true to yourself and don't change for anybody! And yes, this is very cliche, but I wanted to put my two cents worth in!

I don't think that's cliche, and I'm sorry that some people at your church aren't welcoming to homeschoolers. Personally I don't know anyone who is homeschooled, and I give your parents a lot of credit for taking on the role of teaching you - that's a ton of work! Good luck and I'm so glad you found good people to be friends with.

I think everybody feels like an outsider at one time or another, it might be a disability concerning themselves or a social situation. The big issue is about how they feel about themselves, not everybody is going to like you but you are not going to like everyone either. Perhaps the big problem is curiosity and ignorance, when someone has been through something that is extremely debilitating to them, others who have not experienced it will not understand and this may isolate them.

During these times, usually true friends will shows themselves and stick by your side. Make sure not to pull yourself away from them simply because you feel like they wouldn’t understand because what makes them a good friend is that they will try and understand. They will try to make you smile, maybe even say lame jokes to try and make you laugh. Also with gossip, it does pass, it may feel like you’re the centre of attention, in a way you do not want to be but it will pass, you need to stay strong, even stand through the strength of your loved ones, this is life and you have to push through the pain and find acceptance within yourself.

Well, these are just my thoughts on the subject anyway, ....

I would tell them to be strong. Everybody has their own problems, and some are worse than others. But with Caleb and Maggie going through these experiences only makes them stronger, and if they really want the best of things for them they can forget about the past, and just look forward to the future, because you cant change the past, but you can control your future.

umm... Maybe I would tell them to make themselves stronger, wiser, and better. Try not to let people get them down. High school doesn't last forever, so do things that make them happy and spend their time around people that love and care for them.

They are both strong enough to be more than conquerors.
